Poetry: “Test”ing Times

[Celebrating the end of the exam season with this poem, dedicated to all the students]

Sailing through the stormy seas,
The promise of paradise beyond the bend.
Exams make us go weak at our knees,
Yet we fight on till the very end.

As the time flies without a compass,
And our hopes diminish to sheer resent,
The test of knowledge seems ridiculous,
It’s creativity to the rescue at the end.

Struggling to string together words,
To make a meaning out of thin air.
Freedom is what we seek in all worlds,
To live our life the way we deem fair.

The Phoenix Of Indian Cricket – Sourav Ganguly

He hails from the Mecca of Indian Cricket. The land of the ‘babus’ and of course the mouth watering Rasagullas (Pronounce ro-sho-gulla). The man needs no introduction for he is considered as the ‘God of the Off-Side.’ Sourav Gangly scripted a dream debut in the early 90’s where he scored a sparkling ton in the home of World Cricket – LORDS. There has been no looking back ever since. He, along with good friends Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar went on to redefine Indian Cricket in the mid-90’s. They were soon christened as the ‘Three Musketeers’ of Indian Cricket.

The ‘Three Musketeers’ led a charmed life reaching unparallel heights. Adversaries came, adversaries went but none could match the charisma, grit and determination of the trio. They took Indian Cricket to the peak and ensured that the future is secure. Everything looked hunky-dory, some would have thought. Spot Fixing scandal – the dreaded word came to haunt them and they were brought under the hammer. The then Indian captain, Md. Azharuddin was banned for life and the entire team was under serious scrutiny. After serious actions taken by the BCCI, a compromising solution was formulated.
Sourav Ganguly, who was transforming into a mature batsman was handed the reins and he was given the responsibility of resurging the team out from the dumps. This was his first instance of having to make a comeback. Not for himself but for 11 men of a disgraced team.

In came John Wright, India’s first foreign coach. With him came innovation, new ideas and the hunger to perform. The Natwest Series, Series victories in Sri Lanka and West Indies and laudable performances in England were some of the highlights of the era under ‘Dada’ as Ganguly is fondly called. The Eden Garden Test in 2000 where Laxman and Dravid scripted a spirited comeback was hugely attributed to Ganguly’s captaincy. Viru Sehwag’s rise as an opener was a child of Ganguly’s creative brain. The emergence of a new prince in Yuvraj Singh had a lot to do with Sourav’s guidance and panache to identify talent.  Under him the team went through to the finals of the 2003 World Cup. This was a momentous occasion. Ganguly was pronounced as the best captain India ever had. He was living a dream, a dream no one ever dared to imagine.
In walked Greg Chappell, one of Australia’s most famous Captains and a legendary batsman. He was a task master and craved for more power. There was ego clash between him and Sourav and the dressing room started splitting up. Even then, the team started winning some games and started raking up victories. Bad form saw Ganguly being stripped of his captaincy and he was even dropped from the team for some time. The World Cup Debacle – Considered by many as perhaps the second disgrace to Indian Cricket after the spot fixing allegations. Again the entire team was blamed but the blame was on the ‘Prince of Kolkata.’ He was after all a senior member wasn’t he? Dropped-Disgraced- Destroyed.

The prince came back to his kingdom, the Eden Gardens. Trained hard under his coach, shed sweat and overcame all odds. He soon made it to the team only to be dropped again but this time for a longer period. For almost a year he was in oblivion, but not many knew that he went back to his basics. Trained extra hard, gave his hundred and ten percent and started studying the game. He was leaner, fitter and HUNGRIER.  He started churning out centuries after centuries in domestic cricket.
India’s tour of South Africa beckoned. India had called back their crown prince and he was ready for yet another come back. 4 innings with very consistent performances and he was back to doing what he does best – Murdering the bowlers through the off-side. After consistent performance he hung his cricketing shoes in style after hitting a century. He retired from test and ODI cricket on a high, Dada style.
The IPL – India won the inaugural T20 championship and that led to the birth of the IPL. Dada was named Icon and later captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, co-owned by the charismatic Shah Rukh Khan. The first season did not go to expectation and he was stripped off his captaincy in the second season. This led to poor performance from him and the team dipped lower than the first season. He was re-instated as captain on public demand from his ever-faithful fans. The third edition saw him single handedly taking the team to victories, but he was a lone warrior which didn’t help the team in a huge way. Third year in a row the Knight Riders failed. The blame?  Who else but Sourav Ganguly.
The IPL Auction. 2 new teams and a major reshuffle was on the cards. Indian players were selling like hot cake.
Sourav Ganguly with a base price of $400,000. UNSOLD.
Everyone wrote him off. He wont be playing this year they said. He has lost his charm, some pointed out. He no longer has the fire power, others thought.
The WARRIOR PRINCE had other ideas. Pune warriors India signed him as a last minute replacement to Ashish Nehra. They needed him much more than he needed to be in the IPL. They needed motivation and they needed the PHEONIX to RISE again.

Here comes DADA. Let us all rise and hail the MASTER or all COMEBACKS!

Passion: That's what Life’s all about!

You discover your passion; you discover yourself. It definitely adds more meaning to your existence…. and you’ll finally discover your purpose in life!
And when you get there, you will be the happiest you can!
Like M.Shinoda of Fort minor said  in his song : “Its not about the money, its all about the reality and making some noise” I’d like to stress on the fact that it is extremely important for each of us to choose our careers in such a way that we love what we do or even better do what we love!

I can assure you, you’ll be a bigger and a better success when you follow your gut and do what you love doing the most, because you are bound to put in the best of your efforts, and success will come to you naturally - no matter what you choose as your career.

So,I urge you all to discover your passion(s),if you haven’t already don’t just sit there and wait for it to happen, start right now… coz you have all the time in the world. Just go out there and show ‘em all what you’re made of..Infact it isn’t even about “them” its about YOU!

So, remember: its never too late for anything. Good luck and Shine On!!

Poetry: Be The One!

What is the use of power,
When there is blood and strife?
Why do we have to run to take cover,
When we can rise and strike?

What is the use of authority,
When the people despise its right?
Why do we worry of being a minority,
When we can still stand and fight?

What is the purpose to lead,
When there's none willing to follow?
Why do we have to bleed,
When our ideas can wipe out all sorrow?

What is the need to live,
When you can inspire none!
Why do you have to live,
When you can't be the one!

Dreams Unlimited – BLEEDING BLUE

It was a typical Indian summer noon – hot and humid in the city of Dreams, Mumbai. Out came the two wicketkeeper-captains: M.S.Dhoni and Kumar Sangakkara.
9 hours later – The nation would erupted. Cricket here is nothing less than a religion and one man..or should I say one GOD was at the epicentre of the storm. He defied all odds, against different hurdles, and he has been doing it for 22 years.
This was HIS Dream.
He entered his own den. The crowd went on..SACHIN..SACHIN ..Dhak Dhak Dhak !! SACHIN..SACHIN !! One could feel the passion in every hear beat, and there was this little man who looked determined. Chasing a mammoth 275 under lights, he saw his aggressive ally Virender Sehwag fall on the second ball of the inning. He bowed down. Does he have enough resources. He always trusted his team mates and he will continue doing so. He wanted this badly, wasn’t this what he had been waiting for 22 long years? Wasn’t this the only ammunition missing in his armoury? After some mouth watering cover drives and on drives he fell. A skiddy ball from his own Mumbai Indians team mate Lasith Malinga found the edge and was pocketed by the wily Sangakkara. Collective silence. Was this the Beginning of the End?
The nation mourned.
The tournament’s top scorer – Thilakaratne Dilshan had a kind of fire in his eyes, you expect from fighting lions. The ball was tossed into his hands when the Teenage Sensation turned Mature Lad - Virat Kohli and Mr.Consistent Street Fighter-  Gautham Gambhir were going strong. He flipped it tight and his killer instincts made him go for a Lion-like leap to catch the ball. A brave soldier departed.
The Lion had its prey.
What the lion didn’t expect was a Tiger, a tiger equally determined on capturing the jungle. The tiger – M.S.Dhoni pushed himself up ahead of his friend and team mate – Yuvraj who had a dream tournament thus far. The crowd buzzed. Why was he doing this? What if he fails again? Has he gone mad? Tongues wagged as he made his way to the pitch with a willow in his hand. He looked like a hunter, but will it turn out to be a case of the hunter being hunted? CRACK!! 30 minutes in the middle and there it was – A booming six over point. An improvised version of his wristy Copter shot.
He was driven by that Dream
BOOM went the ball over long on. This was it – the moment 1.2 Billion Indians waited for over 28 years. Emotions ran high all across the nation. A 38 year old ran into the ground jumping and hopping. The aggressive Surd in Harbhajan ‘Bhajji’ Singh cried like a 2 year old. 15 men who BLED BLUE for the past 43 days hugged each other. Every drop of INDIAN BLUE formed the mighty Indian Ocean. The crowd roared – India..INDIA..Sachin..Sachin !! This was It. The final frontier some may say, but this was more than a match. This was more than a contest. This was more than life.
It was a Dream.

From Kanyakumari to Kashmir. From Chennai to Chandigarh. From Uttar Pradesh to Madhya Pradesh. Indians all across were BLEEDING BLUE. Forget the elections, forget the scams, forget the controversies, forget the troubles and forget the corruptions. The nation celebrated like a NATION. “We are the Champions”.
A member of the 1983 winning team – Ravi Shastri knew he couldn’t delay the inevitable. He couldn’t stop destiny. “I won’t stop you one second more. The cup is yours” he announced to roaring cheers from the crowd. Dhoni went up to the stage, where the ICC president Sharad Powar was waiting with the cup – the cup that counts. [Click] This frame will be played on forever, and believe me no one will get tired. Dhoni lifted the cup high amidst fireworks, champagne and millions of bits of papers, which wanted to fall on the cup and on the team members. Everyone wanted to be a part of this dream.
The Dream was now a reality!

Dreams Unlimited fulfilled at the City of Dreams

WonderWords congratulates Team India on this magnificent Victory.

Poetry: Live to the Fullest

Life is never what it seems,
You never really get what you dream!
There's so much here we have to learn ,
and much much more we need to earn..

Life is never full of joys,
because: you must remember:
we are like God's toys!
Its His wish to play with us or not
to know what he has on mind is something
beyond the power which we've got!!

The meaning of life is never
properly understood..
Not like I know about it! but hey!
I'm one of you too!

All I can say is this:

Don't worry too much when you're sad
and don't get over angry when you're mad
because, you know ..
too much of anything is bad!!

 Be in control, be disciplined
Don't let go..and yet you must know
you can't always win!

So,take care and freak out,
but just stop and think
when in doubt.

Poetry: The Darkest Hour

[This poem is dedicated to the victims of the double tragedies of earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
"May you find peace and solace when you most need it"]

The Darkest Hour
As the skies above turn fiery red,
And the ground below shakes our might,
A thousand cries for help go unheard,
Losing our conviction to a force we can’t fight!

As the pillars we stood on gave away,
We grappled for a support that never was there.
To make hell hotter, we thought there wasn’t a way,
Then the waters came gushing in, showing us its dare!

As the sea gave chase, destruction kept up its head,
Helpless thoughts and despair was all that it spared.
Through the darkest hour, as nature pronounced the dead,
We plead for survival, the only prayer left to be said!

WonderWands presents... SCION !

Scion is a Christian Gospel Rock Band formed by three high school students all sharing a common dream: To use their musical talent for the Lord. The band formed in Chennai, India in 2009.The current lineup includes lead vocalist Jeremy Francis, lead and rhythm guitarists Jeswin Samuel and Jebasingh Edward, bassist Sanjay Sunder, drummer Paxton Paul and keyboardist John Joshua. The name "Scion" comes from grafting in biology, where the scion is used as a base for plant branches (stock) to grow. In the Bible, Jesus says " I am the vine and you are the branches" John 15:5 and so, they are the 'branches' of Christ and  hope to be a 'base' for others through their music.

The First Gig:

They still hadn't decided on a name for the band although some names like Paradox, Slingers and Xesis were under consideration. The YouTurn Youth Retreat, in mid August 2010 led to the arrival of Paxton. It was after this time that the name Scion was chosen as it also had a biblical meaning. In September 2010 Scion performed the song "Strong Tower" by Kutless at St.George's Cathedral and turned out to be a success.

IMS Annual Sale 2010:

Barely a couple of weeks after September'10 , the band got an offer to play at the IMS Annual Sale in October 2010, Chennai. This brought about the arrival of Jebasingh and John. They watched gospel groups like Hillsong, Lincoln Brewster, Kutless and aspired to bring a similar passion and dedicated musicianship to their own concerts. The band played their first own composition titled "Go Out Into The World" and wasn't too well received by the audience. This led to a change in the band's mind set as they painstakingly realized it was never really about them, it was all about God.

Annual Fellowship Camp - Yelagiri 2011:

The New Year 2011 started out great for Scion as they were requested to play and lead worship in The Annual Fellowship Camp organised by ABC Ministries. Beyond the band’s brightening internal artistic merits, it was inspiring to hear the Scion members talk about what they are learning outside of their own lives, the lessons that transcend any given genre to improve ministry impact. Who could have thought that singing about Jesus would give anyone, peace that surpasses all understanding?
Scion is looking for a record label to help them produce their first album and planning to hopefully release it by the end of 2011. The main concern of the band is to play music only for God's glory. Name and fame is not being sought after as it completely contradicts what they stand for. It certainly addresses the commissioned goal of reaching the entire earth with a message of hope of salvation and Christ's love. A meaningful song by Kutless goes "I’ve seen dreams that move the mountains, Hope that doesn’t ever end, Even when the sky is falling. I’ve seen miracles just happen, Silent prayers get answered, Broken hearts become brand new, That’s what faith can do!!"

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2011 - The Story Thus Far....

Thinking of Champions League, the first thing that comes to my mind, is their anthem, its so makes me gaga over it, just as the way I'm singing now... "CHAMP---IONS..... CHAMP--IONS........ CHAMP--IONS......." with the elegant anthem rhythming in the back of my mind. It is totally the competition which every player wants too and would love to win it in their career. It is the Ultimate trophy to win in Europe. As some people call it the "HOLY GRAIL". Any player who gets the "Holy grail" is worshiped by their club's fans as the ALMIGHTY. Yeah, I know its too much of Exaggeration, that's exactly how football is. For many fans around the world including me "Football is not just a game, It's a Religion". Once you get into it, there is no way you are gonna pull out of it.

Let's get to the point now:

So what has the Champions League 2010-2011 offered us so far?

Just the way it always does, Glittering stadiums - at its full capacity, ever-passionate fans- singing their hearts out, hope which surrounds each clubs, clashes between the clubs which are meant to be legendary, and of-course the hype which always follows before every match.
Champions league 2010-2011 brings us something fresh, firstly the try out of the goal-line official, which is still under examination. The sides which are so called minnows are giving it really a go for the much hyped, much favoured, much supported clubs. You never know whats gonna happen next in this prestigious tournament.

Qualifiers:

This season's qualifiers brought greatest upsets and mouth-biting clashes. The teams who made through the qualifiers really deserve their place, for they played their hearts out at each n every match. The greatest upset was sevilla getting knocked out and fernerbahce. The Spanish and Turkish side really were meant to be the favourities to qualify and get into the groups to play in champions league. But where knocked out by a determined braga and young boys. The young boys very nearly made to the UCL. They gave spurs a sweat out at the park and were unlucky to lose their chance to make to the group, though spurs made a remarkable comeback to comeback from 3 goal down to 3-2 and qualifying for the groups.
The other team which really deserved its place where copenhagen. Their exquisite passing, fluid movement, great co-ordination and managed by a manager who is a fighter, makes them a lot more threatening than they are known for, but are still considered minnows given their reputation. They passed out this test well and made it to the groups.

Groups:

Group A
The group of Surprises.

Everybody underestimated the Spurs. Spurs where tipped by many to get eliminated given that they don't have the experience or the squad everybody thought is not Europe standard. They proved everyone wrong and made them realize that they are team who you should not take lightly, if you do, you are in for a ride. Spurs qualified above Inter, The current holders of UCL.
Of course who would have imagined, Bale would suddenly become a Messi or Ronaldo and give Maicon (The supposedly world's best Right back currently) a stroll. Maicon was beaten completely by his pace, skill, and above all his ability to attack towards the goal. Spurs where so boosted with the arrival of Van der vaart. The dutch midfielder's contribution has been significant to their success this season. He has become an instant hit among the fans and his timing to arrive the box late on, perfect on-goal target shots and his passes as been an real assest to this spurs team.
Spurs made through the round of 16 by topping the group and are expected to be the black-horses to lift the trophy.
Inter's qualification was no walk in the park. Their qualification this time has taken a real ups-downs owing to the arrival of new manager rafa benitez. His tactics weren't working well for the team and injuries to key players as made life miserable to the spainard, ex-liverpool manager who lifted the champions league trophy back in 2005 with liverpool, that final was legendary. But they sweated out and made through to the next round. Unlike last season under jose mourniho, where they didnt lose a single match and made through by topping the group.
Twente and Bermen gave their best, but where undone by two great teams who deserved to qualify above them.

Group - B

The group of Outsiders.

Schalke and lyon making through this group with ease at the end. Starting couple of games were thought of being a real twist and turns in this edition of UCL, but it wasnt to be. Lyon though where given a tough fight from benfica and the clash was nail-biting with lyon making it through to the round of 16.
It was the group of Germany, France, Portugal and Israel. With each club striking at each other and trying to make the life miserable for the other. But football is different and the luck factor is there, so schalke and lyon as expected got through.

Group - C

The group of Promise.

Manchester united making through to the group of 16, while valencia also making through close behind. Manchester united tops the group with ease at the end, Given they had to draw two games at home, while their away form was the reason for their ability to go through. Manchester united, this season was unlike before their previous season, where they played vintage united. United lacked the ability to score goal, their passes at the final third of pitch and also their ability to sprint. But whats good about this united team is their no giving up attitude which is rightly in their blood always, and also the ability to defend, given that they lacked crazy goals in bpl, its different in ucl, their defending and ofcourse their counter-attacking is better in ucl. United's star rooney starts to score, then it would have been a real different united. The striker is finding way to recover his horrendous form of late and can prove to be a real problem for all teams if he starts firing some up and his name being entered in score sheet.
Valencia was miserably wrong taken by most teams, owing to the fact that they sold their star players david villa and david silva in the summer, which everyone thought would be the crumbling of the the Espana side in this season. But they written off everyone wrong and strolled past their opponents and making their way into the round of 16.

Group D

The group of Total Football

Barcelona as ever, as thought of, as expected of to teach footballing lessons to their opponents and thats what they did. Really strong at the back, real intent of pressing at the back and then counter-tack through a long ball forward to the wings or opponents penalty box, and of-course the Footballer of the year Mr. MESSI is playing, what can you expect when somebody just eases pass through players with stunning pace and delicate touches and shots which would kill a bird if did manage to come near the goal. That was the effect of messi. The one-touch passes around themselves has been the highlight of catalans and also their shear vision of seeing the player and making those through balls, is nothing short of absolutely spot on! It is TOTAL football and their convection to just ease past each player makes the defenders job all the more nightmare. Barcelona to describe will be will be "Barca- The Home of Football".
Copenhagen has really surprised me every time I watch them play. They are titled as I mentioned above: "The Dutch Barcelona". They really came into the tournament unknown, unheard by many, but have now made their way into the round of 16 in a awesome fashion. They can't be taken lightly, given their determination to win and their defending of barca to a draw at home. Proved to be a great result for them.
Rubin khazan n pananthinaikos are out of the UCL, can't quite expect to say much about them. They were poor and their desperate defending at times really tried to give them some recognition but not the standard of champions league football. Need to improve if they have been thinking of good run in UCL next year, if they qualify.

Group E

The Group of Dark Horses.

Bayern munich rip and tore apart each of their opponents in the champions league, given that they have been drawn in a pretty easy group. The german strollers where given a beating in the bundesliga, given that their poor run of form and results affected them badly in the league, but definitely not in the UCL. They were ruthless in the goal scoring capabilities and tearing apart each defenses time and again.
They are their own evils though, they have the ability to play really well on their day, but if it is not, they generally try to create a hole for themselves and get stuck in it and end up losing out. The same mistake they committed in the UCL final last season and seen them gifting the trophy to inter, but inter also played well that they forced bayern to commit the mistake.
Roma despite the similar problems at Italy, failing miserably to do well in seria A already made them lose the title, but they secured their place in the round of 16, pretty comfortably, with some last minute goals at crucial games did the trick.

Group F

The Group of Strollers.

Chelsea, Blues simply were unstoppable. They were scoring goals for fun and goals were off great passing and movement and explicit kicking of the ball at its best. Blues have never managed to win the UCL, they have by far come close to winning it in 2007, when John Terry slipped and shot the ball over, which if he didn't would have put the trophy in his hands. They have always wanted to win this trophy and this will always be their "Holy Grail". They want to rewrite their history and want the trophy to bear the name "CHELSEA" on it. That is why they are going this time with a hand on mission and roman is desperate for this trophy than anyone else will ever be. Look at the amount of money he splashed to get torres and luiz. He is seriously wants it this time. Chelsea already can say bye bye to their league glory and all that chelsea have this season is the UCL. N he excepts nothing else than the trophy.
The blues from the west london, have got their best shot this season than ever. Chelsea's players are all getting older faster than the day before, all of them combine well, great team spirit, plus they got TORRES. A number 9 striker which was always missing from their attack, they have got one, and all they need now is to find the coordination between the team and they can strike what they are aiming for.
Marsille qualifying campaign was good, but their group campaign was even better. They played well and defeated chelsea at away. They can be expected to give a shock or too in the round of 16. They have a good in depth squad and are combing well to make merry.
Spartak moscow and MSk zilina played well but they still need to improve quite remarkably if they think about having a go in their qualifying campaign next season.

Group G

The Group of Death.

Real Madrid, marched into the round of 16 along with the Italian giants, Ac Milan, it was certainly a group picked out by many pundits around the world, that this group will be the group of death. And it did live up to that expectation with Ac milan very close to being knocked out by ajax, the dutch team, gave them torrid time at san siro, thank god that they won against auxerre or it was certainly curtains for the milan's hopes of going to round of 16.
Real Madrid were the only other team than united to remain undefeated in the competition and they qualified through to the next round in emphatic fashion under jose mourniho, not to forgot the awesome comeback by real to draw the tie against milan at san siro. It was just the kind of results which keeps the hunger of remaining unbeaten throughout seeps through each of the player's mind and veins and with a fighter and great leader of a manager, leading them, you never know what they are capable of, they are definitely the favourities and to bring back the trophy to bernabeu after a wait of nearly a decade. A new era will this be the new dawn of hope that trophy is won for the 10th time after years the spanish wealthy gaints losing out at different stages of the league.
Ajax and auxerre where tough competitors and gave Real Madrid and Ac Milan an work out.

Group H

The group of Upsets.

Arsenal certainly qualified without giving their all and fight their way into the eliminating stages of the competition. Arsenal have to be given a nickname, "Unpredictable", they able to win against at top quality sides very emphatically, but fail to do against the less experienced sides and are taken in for a workout to go past or lose a couple of games.
Arsenal's ex-forward eduardo haunted the gunners by scoring the crucial goal just before the half-time to sink arsenal, shakhtar donetsk were the deserved winners at the donbass arena and made their way to the top of table above the gunners and made a huge qualification to the next round of the competition.
Shakhtar donetsk losing a single away match to arsenal where the only negative impact of their campaign and rest all matches they just cruised past. Braga played well for their part of the show, but where too in competitive at times when it matters the most.
The Champions league so far has been breath-taking, heartbeat-skipping, and a absolute peach to watch for any supporter out there. The level of the competition as now risen to a whole new level, given the amount of expectations always tends to follow every match. The final at the Wembley just adds a bit of more flavour to the event, given that england fans are the craziest of all fans and they expect none short than a English final being held at their own home. But only time will tell, as of now Hats-Off to UEFA for delivering great games and memories each time they host the game and this prestigious name of "European Champions" which follows it.

P.S.
I forgot to mention I'm a CHELSEA fan, for a very very long time and I hope the Blues will lift the cup finally this season at their own backyard.
Good Luck Blues!
Cheers!
KTBFFH!

Short Story: An Apocalyptic Thought

He had been sitting at his desk for a long time now. Deep in thoughts, his hand thoughtlessly played with a pen, the one he always used when he had to come up with new plans. The pen was more of a symbol of the faith in his own abilities than his beliefs in superstition. Now armed with his mighty weapon, ideas came flooding into his mind. He suddenly felt a wave of fresh energy sweeping though him, something he hadn’t felt
for some time now.

The year was 2035. There was smoke everywhere, clouding the landscape around with a greyish tint. Faint sounds of blasting and distant booming came from miles away as the landscape that man had taken decades to built lay in rubbles and a heap of waste. The air was filled with nascent smells of gases and smoke and breathing was an exercise that required much effort. The plants and trees around are withered in the heat and the ones that managed to exist bear no resemblance to the greener ones that stood in their place only years ago. The only survivors are the smaller animals that were able to squeeze themselves into the crevices and gaps in the rubble and withstand the heat. There was destruction everywhere. The apocalypse had been evitable but unstoppable.

He was suddenly distracted by the noise of a door creaking open behind him and the sound of footsteps. He swung around on an impulse, his chain of thoughts shattered. A wave of annoyance swept through him as he saw his wife walking into the room holding a glass of milk. She placed it gently on the table with a sweet smile on her face, which quickly turned sour on seeing the reaction on her husband’s face. She looked at him questioningly.
“How many times have I told you not to disturb me when I am working?” he chided.
“Relax, it isn’t like you are planning a war strategy or something, it’s just a story!!” she replied and walked off briskly before he could say another word.

He sighed and looked out of the window at the lush green pastures outside his house. His story had been coming out well.

Movie Review: A Classic Re-visited !

Sunset Blvd. (1950)
Where do i start ? Is it the narration, dialogs or the style so rare; or is it the direction and acting, that made us stare ?! Sunset Blvd. is a complete package of all proportions. This movie still remains as one of the most eerie film in the cinema history and still a realistic depiction because of its reflection of Hollywood. It can give you the idea of the dream land's transformation into a nightmareIt begins with a rather thrilling note showing a homicide scene in a huge bungalow. Its the flashback that takes us right from the start till the moment the cops find the dead body in the pool.

When i was watching this movie, i couldn't help but notice that the narration was so captivating that you would give it your undivided attention as almost every detail and emotion of the scene was being described in crisp detail ensuring that they stick to the point and yet keep us entertained ! William Holden plays the role of an aspiring movie writer who is in a desperate need for work. And let me tell you, more than his acting, its his voice that keeps you hooked all along ! Gloria Swanson on the other hand portrays the character of 'Norma Desmond'; a compulsive and egoistic actress with a suicidal tendency who is looking for a comeback in Hollywood after almost 20 years. Although being nominated for an oscar for this role, its a pity she dint go on to win it.

The story, set in '50s Hollywood, focuses on Norma Desmond, a silent-screen goddess whose pathetic belief in her own indestructibility has turned her into a demented recluse. The crumbling Sunset Boulevard mansion where she lives with only her butler, Max who was once her director and husband has become her self-contained world. Norma dreams of a comeback to pictures and she begins a relationship with Joe Gillis, a small-time writer who becomes her lover, that will soon end with murder and total madness.

What i loved about the movie was the underlying sarcasm in most of the dialogs in the first half. Coming to the music; the background score for a 1950 movie was truly remarkable as it gets you totally into the mood of the ongoing scene. Needless to say it won the oscar for best music as well ! The director Billy wilder has outdone himself on this one as he literally brings to life this most realistic tale of a Hollywood life. Its movies like these that make you wonder why the hell people even 60 years later cant make a movie with such a simple plot, yet not disappointing on any aspect.
